Guy Hepner
is pleased to announce its involvement in Photo LA 2010, the 19th Annual International Los Angeles Photographic Art Exposition, held at 1855 Main Street in Santa Monica, California. Photo LA is open to the public from Friday, January 15th to Sunday, January 17th from 11am to 6 pm. This exhibition will showcase the debut of The Porn Room, the newest collection from internationally renowned photographer Tony Duran.

Over the past eighteen years Photo LA has earned a reputation as one of the most prominent art fairs and leading photo-based events in the world. Presenting the finest galleries from around the globe, this 19th edition of Photo LA promises to provide an experience like no other. Special events including book signings, conversations, collecting seminars and portfolio reviews are scheduled throughout the weekend.

The opening night reception hosted by celebrated photographer David LaChapelle and actor/photographer Chris Lowell on Thursday, January 14th from 6pm to 9pm will benefit the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at LACMA.

Critically acclaimed celebrity and fashion photographer, Tony Duran has recently released his decadent new series The Porn Room. This collection provides a glimpse into the hedonistic world of Tony Duran, where fantasy and reality merge into one incredible visual experience. The ambiguity in Duran’s images is achieved by visually heightening what is truly sensual about the object or person in front of his lens. These exceptional pieces are comparable in composition and technique to works by the great twentieth century photographic masters from Robert Mapplethorpe to Helmut Newton and Herb Ritts.

Touted as “the most famous non-famous photographer in the world,” Tony Duran has photographed a virtual who’s who of the Hollywood and fashion set. Born in Winona, MN and a graduate from University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, Duran has no formal training in photography but utilizes his past of painting, drawing and unrivaled artistic vision. From the beginning of his career, Duran has traveled the world building a stellar archive of work. Tony Duran’s work has been seen on countless magazine and album covers, campaigns and editorials.

A year after the art market fell to an all-time low, Andy Warhol’s 200 One Dollar Bills (1962) broke records this month at auction. Last auctioned 23 years ago for a then impressive $385,000, and recently estimated at $12 million, Warhol’s 200 One Dollar Bills sold for an unprecedented $44 million at Sotheby’s contemporary evening sale. Many collectors and critics view this as a strong indication that the art market has regained its former strength, and it certainly proves that Andy Warhol’s work is unaffected by market volatility. The auction as a whole was an incredible success, though the true highlight was Warhol’s depiction of his favorite commodity, the dollar. Guy Hepner is pleased to offer pieces from Warhol's exceptional series, Dollar ($) Signs. Please contact the gallery for further information and availability.

Rare Andy Warhol Works Now Available

Guy Hepner is excited to present five rare Andy Warhol works. Included in this series are two of Warhol’s infamous portraits of the Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong. Mao appears both sinister and comical in these famous renditions by Andy Warhol. Also available are Paramount and Blackglama, two of Warhol’s most well-known and esteemed advertisements. Warhol’s Dollar ($) Signs best represent the artist’s satirical take on conspicuous consumption. In the words of Warhol, “I like money on the wall. Say you were going to buy a $200,000 painting. I think you should take that money, tie it up, and hang it on the wall. Then when someone visited you, the first thing they would see is the money on the wall.” Please contact the gallery for further information.

Bear Portraits by Jill Greenberg

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BEAR PORTRAITS BY JILL GREENBERG AT GUY HEPNER – 21 NOV – 5 DEC

OPENING PARTY AND BOOK SIGNING BY THE ARTIST – THURS, NOV 21 FROM 7 - 9 PM

“These pictures are smarter than the average bear” – Elivis Costello

Bears occupy a unique position in the popular imagination – at one end of the spectrum is the cuddly teddy bear and at the other the terrifying grizzly. Acclaimed celebrity portrait photographer Jill Greenberg confronts our collective fears and fantasies with her remarkable series Bear Portraits.

“When I was shooting the bears, I was surprised that they’d often pose like cuddly teddy bears. I thought that was really cute and I liked the dichotomy between the two ways the bears could be,” says Greenberg.

The creator of the infamous photographic collections End Times and Monkey Portraits, Greenberg is renowned for her highly original visual style. Whether the subject is a pop music diva, a film star, or a chimpanzee, Jill Greenberg photographs are instantly recognizable. Greenberg’s bear portraits engage the viewer with an incredible range of emotion: cubs as cute as a child’s stuffed animal, brown bears that look as if they might swallow you whole, and polar bears seated in sphinxlike tranquility.

The poses and facial expressions of Greenberg’s bears are at turns oddly comedic, pensive, terrifying and often surprisingly human. Alive with Greenberg’s signature lighting and seen through the unique perspective of her lens, these bear portraits offer unforgettable encounters with our untamed selves.

Guy Hepner is excited to present Bear Portraits by Jill Greenberg, opening November 21st and running through December 5th, with an opening party and book signing by the artist Thursday, November 21st from 7 to 9 pm at 300 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood.
