Expanding on their previous concepts of the relationship between photography and graphic design, these works fuse bold and graphic images. The collection puts a new spin on some of our favorite Ultravelvet pieces, which include familiar imagery of rock & roll greats and monetary icons. As we are reminded of the effect of bold colorways and exposure, the haunting complexity of these twice exposed and layered pieces instantly draws in all viewers.

Damien Hirst's Butterfly Paintings

Damien Hirst, the English artist who is responsible for provocative and often dark content, takes on what seems to be a sense of lightheartedness with his Butterfly paintings. Art enthusiasts are most familiar with his skull images, spot paintings, and pharmaceutical paraphernalia and themes. While evoking a sense of mortality, a shift seems to take place in his bright, wonder-filled paintings and Diamond Dust prints.

Pop Prints at Auction

Christie's and Sotheby's both recently held auctions of contemporary art featuring many Guy Hepner artists and recorded outstanding results. Once again, art enthusiasts were reminded exactly why the genre was originally deemed 'Popular' art: This past week's showing proved the demand for Pop Art continues to match what is available.

Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, two artists that defined the period, both available from Guy Hepner, comprised a dominating portion of the lots, and with good reason:

Andy Warhol's Moonwalk went for $116,907 while a collection of his portraits, the Mao series, peaked at $768,075.

Two more of Warhol's works also went to auction. Warhol's Mick Jagger sold for $69,200, while his rendition of Munch's Scream, The Scream, hit $453,200.

Roy Lichtenstein's results were no less impressive. The coloring-book-nudes in Lichtenstein's "Two Nudes," from 1994 auctioned at $290,000.

An insatiable demand for Pop Art exists and continues to expand the contemporary art market.

A variety of Russell Young's work is now on view at Guy Hepner. In rememberance and celebration of Elizabeth Taylor's life, we are showcasing Russell Young's large and vibrant renditions of the popular icon.

Hugely popular neon light artist Chris Bracey's work, "All You Need is Love," flashes spectacularly at Guy Hepner and is accompanied by three works from Bracey's newest collection, "Ebrace," including "Let it Be," "Forever and Ever," and "Live Your Life, Be Free." The well known phrases in neon are bold and exciting additions to our display.

Street artist, Mr. Brainwash is still on our mind here at Guy Hepner. Our newest addition is a large installation piece that recalls a favorite childhood pastime.

Elizabeth Taylor by Russell Young

Russell Young is a British contemporary artist well known for his photography, film, and painting. Fascinated by Hollywood starlets and iconic celebrities, Russell Young has magnified images of beauty and popular culture onto larger than life canvases. Among his subjects, we find the graceful and iconic Elizabeth Taylor. Painted in 2008, this series of unique portraits is on display at Guy Hepner West Hollywood exclusively this month. In 2010, Liz Taylor acquired one of these pieces for her own personal collection from our gallery.
