David Drebin: Seascapes
David Drebin’s Seascapes evoke feelings of wonder and awe. Though the photographs are taken from remote vantage points, Drebin manages to immerse the viewer in the setting. Now Available: Rare Warhol Marilyns
Guy Hepner is pleased to make available three rare Warhol Marilyns from the original 1967 series. Just deaccessioned by a private collector, these striking works are three of the most desirable color ways from Warhol's series. As one of the founders of the Pop Art movement, Warhol examined the iconography of American culture and the mass media’s depiction of it. Warhol chose a publicity photograph from the film Niagara (1953) for his immortalizing series of Marilyn. One might ascribe, in part, the level of cult worship of Marilyn Monroe to Andy Warhol for his iconic depiction of her.

Decompose/Compose: Resurrect
Alex Guofeng Cao pays homage to pop culture's most famous icons in a very unique way. At first glance, Cao's series Decompose/Compose: Resurrect appears to simply be portraits of celebrities, such as Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol and Brigitte Bardot. Upon closer inspection, one can see that Cao's pieces are composed of small repetitive images. The arrays of miniscule visages used by Cao to form the larger portraits, are themselves iconic images. Cao's images are imposing and arresting to say the least. Cao's work has been exhibited extensively worldwide and is held in many prominent collections.

Outstanding Auction Results for MBW
Mr. Brainwash experienced outstanding auction results at Phillips de Pury & Company in New York last week. Estimated between $50,000 and $70,000, MBW’s Charlie Chaplin sold for an impressive $122,500, double the initial estimate. Mr. Brainwash’s unmistakable style features cultural icons such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Charlie Chaplin and Albert Einstein. MBW’s current show ICONS in NYC, comes on the heels of an acclaimed rendition of Madonna for the cover of her latest album, as well as sold-out shows in both Los Angeles and London. This incredible success at auction is only a taste of what is to come for one of the world’s leading street artists.
